What if I told you that there is One Thing that truly successful people do differently?
And if you do this One Thing, you too can reach your full potential, implement your Vision and live the lifestyle that comes with that.
I will tell you what this One Thing is in a moment.
But first, let me introduce myself...
Hi, I'm Faizel.
I'm the Owner of Using Mind Maps Academy and I'm an Information Systems Manager turned Agile Management Consultant, Trainer and Coach.
I help people manage their work effectively, so that they can implement their Vision, even if they only have a few hours a week to work on it.
But it wasn't always like this
I grew up on the Cape Flats in Cape Town South Africa.
The Cape Flats is one of the most dangerous, gang ridden places in the world.
The Cape Flats was one of the products of the Apartheid System in South Africa.
Apartheid was one of the most inhumane, oppressive systems ever invented.
As I'm writing this, more than 20 years after Nelson Mandela became the president of South Africa, the army is occupying The Cape Flats, as the plight of the people on The Cape Flats hasn't improved even though the first free and fair elections were held way back in 1994.
In fact, it has gotten worse, with gangsterism on the increase and the daily loss of innocent lives a reality for those people.
It is out of this that I came.
I wasn't born into wealth, or with any special favours.
I had to work to pay for my own education.
Yet, because of this One Thing, I was able to successfully change jobs at strategic time times, work in Europe to help out with their skill shortage at the turn of the century, and have my own Online Academy today, through which I help people from all over the world to be more effective.
In the beginning, I didn't know that I was using this One Thing. I somehow was doing a lot of it instinctively.
It wasn't until I read The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen R. Covey in 1995 that I realised what this One Thing was.
A year later, I changed jobs after 11 years at the same job.
And, would you believe it, they sent me on 'Seven Habits' training, where I got even more insight into this One Thing.
This One Thing then enabled me to get a Job in The Netherlands. And I was able to take my wife and two kids along.
I was able to see Europe and holiday on the French Riviera, which would have been impossible if I hadn't discovered this One Thing.
By now you are probably thinking: "Stop keeping me in suspense! Just tell me what this One Thing is..."
But before I tell you what the One Thing is, I would like you to think about another scenario.
Imagine you went to a Magic Shop. That is, a shop that sells magic tricks and illusions.
You pick out the trick that astounds and fascinates you the most, and buy it.
If you are like me, you won't be able to wait until you get home before you open it to see the secret.
Now, there is one thing that I can guarantee you.
You are going to be disappointed. And you won't be disappointed because it's too hard, or complex.
You will be disappointed at how simple it is.
You may think that this won't be able to fool anybody.
Yet it was able to fool you...
This One Thing is exactly the same. It looks too simple to be effective.
But once you apply it effectively, you will be able to implement your Vision and realize your full potential.
Are You Ready?
The One Thing
Successful people work ON their lives...
Successful people work ON their business, not just in their business.
Successful people work ON their careers not just in their careers.
It’s the reason why the best tennis players in the world, like Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, hire coaches to help them improve their game.
It the reason why they spend so much time practicing and tweaking their game.
It’s how effectively they work ON their game that determines how successful they will be when they are in the game.
And to do this, they need a routine, discipline and a system.
They need to proactively schedule time in their calendars to work on their game.
Then, together with their coach, they fill the time with meaningful work.
That is exactly what you should be doing, if you want to live up to your full potential.
You should be scheduling proactive time in your calendar to spend on your business, on your career, on your dreams, on your big ideas...
And then fill that time with meaningful work to achieve your goals.
This is Habit One according to Stephen R. Covey in his book, the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People.
Habit One is:
Think about scheduling a few hours a week in your calendar for proactive tasks.
Think of it as the same as scheduling time to play golf, or going to a movie.
While you are playing golf, you would probably ignore all distractions, especially if you left your phone in the clubhouse, so that you could focus on enjoying your game.
If you are courteous, you won't answer your phone while sitting in the movie theatre. It would prevent you, and those around you, from focusing on, and enjoying, the movie.
You would be single-mindedly focused on playing golf, or watching your movie, during these few hours.
That is how I would like you to think about proactive time. It's just like scheduling time to play golf, or going to the movies.
How many hours could you schedule in your calendar for proactive time to work on your business, your career, or your big ideas?
Only a few proactive hours a week may be all that you need to live up to your full potential.
It's time for action
We know that knowledge of solutions are great. We know that wisdom is great.
But without ACTION, nothing happens.
I therefore have something for you to take action on today...
Introducing Practical Personal Agile
For you to effectively implement your Vision and live up to your full potential, you need a system that works.
Developing a system that works could cost you thousands of dollars and take hundreds of hours.
Consultants, Managers and Certified Coaches are not cheap.
Agile Management Consultants and Coaches, like me, earn more than $100,000 a year in the corporate world.
And traditional agile management training costs thousands of dollars.
Employing a Full Time Agile Coach as an individual is almost impossible.
But, my life mission is to help a small number of dedicated individuals make an impact on the world.
So, I've put together a 6 Week Training Program Based on the Agile Management Methods used by successful companies like Google, Facebook, Apple and Microsoft.
It's also based on the knowledge and experience I personally gained by implementing Agile Management Methods in billion dollar companies.
But, more importantly, this has been battled tested with my personal clients, which include small business owners, career professionals, students, and more...
This is what we are going to do:
Each week, the lesson is broken down into two components:
You will only learn essential theory and will start implementing from Day One.
Week 1: Visualize
In this module, you will get your Vision out of your head, so that it stops looping in your heard.
You head is for coming up with ideas, not for managing ideas.
You will learn tools and techniques specifically designed to help you do this.
You will then be introduced to the tools and the system, so that you can put your ideas into the system, ready to be implemented.
You will also be given specific steps to manage your time effectively.
Finally, you will prepare your work for the next phase of the work, which is the Manager role.
Week 2: Organize
In this Module, you will organize, prioritize and size your tasks, so that it's ready to be actioned.
This can be seen as the Management Role.
You will proactively put work onto the Kanban Board, which I set up for you, so that it's easy for the technician, or the work to implement.
You will then learn how the different components of the Kanban Board work, so that you are a master at managing the system.
After this week, the work will be ready for the Technician or Worker to implement.
Week 3: Minimize
You will learn how to use the Kanban System to get your work done and how to handle things that can't get done.
This is the Technician, or Worker Role.
You will learn about Work in Progress Limits, Workflow and The Definition of Done.
After applying the concepts in this week, you will have enough information and evidence of how well the system is working.
Week 4: Planning and Review
This is the first Review and Planning Session.
It sets the basis for building a proactive habit that will allow you to manage all your work in only One Hour a week.
We will also use this session to evaluate what's working, what's not working, and what do be done better.
Week 5: Handling Big Projects
Week 5 Focuses on handling bigger projects.
You will learn about a Project Board and Story Maps.
This week introduces you to essential concepts if you want to go to the next level.
You will also be introduced to other tools and methods you can use to make work visible.
Week 6: Putting it all Together
Week 6 focuses on putting it all together and looks at case studies of a working system.
It also recaps everything so that you are able to apply the system effectively.
It also how you can get help going forward as part of your membership.
This is just a short overview of what will be covered. I couldn't list everything here, but it should give you a good idea of what is going to be covered.
